Travel Documents

Travel documents are temporary documents issued by authorization from the Department of Immigration and Emigration, Maldives to facilitate citizens to travel to / from the country of residences in special cases where passports are destroyed, lost or expired and making a new passport would take time. In such cases, Maldivians in Thiruvananthapuram are requested to contact this Consulate to get a Temporary Travel Document.
Temporary Travel Documents are valid for fifteen days from the date in the document and allow only one return travel. Documents required are:

  • Letter informing the reason for travel document
  • 2 passport size photographs
  • Complete personal details (Name, Sex, Age, Permanent Address, ID Card No. or Passport No if known)

Additional documents required:

For new babies born

  • Birth certificate from the Hospital / Nursing Home, etc
  • Personal details of both parents
  • Passport copies of both parents
  • Marriage Registration Certificate
  • 2 passport size photographs of the baby

Loss of passport / destruction

  • Police Report from the Nearest Police Station
  • Request letter from passport holder
  • Copy of the Information page of the lost passport

Expiry of passport

  • Copy of the Information page from the expired passport
  • Copy of pages of entry into India
  • Copy of visa page (if any)

Once the document is given approval from the Department of Immigration and Emigration, the document would be handed over. Please give sufficient time for processing the document, keeping in mind the holidays of both countries.

Renewal of Passports

Documents to be submitted for application

  • Application form for renewal of passports by Department of Immigration and Emigration
  • Valid National Identity Card
  • Old Passport
  • If lost, police report
